NFL News: Vikings have reportedly made final decision about Aaron Rodgers career with Minnesota

Aaron Rodgers may have had his eyes on Minnesota, but the Vikings are looking in a different direction. With their focus now fully on developing rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy, the team has reportedly closed the door on any potential Rodgers reunion in the NFC North.

The Minnesota Vikings have decided that Aaron Rodgers will not be their quarterback and that all their focus is on developing J.J. McCarthy as the future of the franchise, according to a report from Ian Rapoport.

“Aaron Rodgers was interested in the Vikings. But even Rodgers knows now that wait would be futile. I don’t think the Vikings were a pipe dream for Aaron Rodgers. I think it was at one point real enough to where I know he considered it, and I know the Vikings considered it. The Vikings think J.J. McCarthy is very talented, but at least they had to consider it (Aaron Rodgers). They’re all in on J.J. McCarthy.”

Kevin O’Connell believes that McCarthy has enough talent to lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl with a spectacular offense that includes Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Aaron Jones.

Is Aaron Rodgers a free agent?

Yes. Aaron Rodgers is a free agent, which allows him to wait for the Vikings. However, according to Rapoport’s information, waiting for Minnesota will be pointless for the quarterback. Therefore, his real option is Pittsburgh.

“Let’s just say Aaron Rodgers waits, which I don’t think he will, but let’s say he does. It would have to be like through training camp for them to be like: ‘All right, J.J. is not what we thought, we need a veteran, let’s go sign Rodgers.’ He is not going to wait that long. I don’t even think that’s going to happen, because I would bet J.J. is going to be really good. So, what I meant by Rodgers realizing that wait is futile is that if he waited, it probably still wouldn’t happen. Him signing with the Steelers seems like the most likely thing to happen.”
