Travis Hunterâs arrival in the NFL, following his selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the latest draft, continues to spark debate over which position Liam Coen should deploy him. Maxx Crosby, one of the Las Vegas Raidersâ stars, weighed in on the discussion, offering valuable advice to his fellow player.
Itâs well known that a rookieâs first season in this league can be a major challenge, often causing even the most talented players to struggle finding their rhythm right away. Not having a clearly defined position in the coaching staffâs scheme can add an extra layer of difficulty for Hunter as he makes his professional debut.
Crosby is someone who knows what it takes to find footing early in a career, which is why he sent an important message to the former Colorado Buffaloes player. He advised him to quickly decide whether heâll play as a wide receiver or cornerback so the team can settle on strategies in the short term.
âMake him lock in on one side,â the DE said on the latest episode of Maxx Crosbyâs podcast, The Rush. âYouâre going to be a starter here, but weâre going to have some packages for you on defense or offense, whatever it is, and just keep it simple. Youâre going to go in, these are your plays, boom, know these plays, and go out there.

Maxx Crosby #98 of the Las Vegas Raiders reacts after a defensive stop in the second quarter of a game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on November 17, 2024 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
âIf you just try to dump all the information on him at one time, that just seems unfair to the player, and I donât think coaches are stupid. Theyâre going to do their best to protect their asset. Itâs a business at the end of the day. You have to have him out there for the duration of a full season. So, it will be interesting.â

What position should Travis Hunter play?
The former Buffaloes standout enters the NFL with a unique skill set that makes him a rare two-way prospect. The Jacksonville Jaguars are closely watching his early practices to determine whether he fits best as a cornerback or a wide receiver. Hunter himself has expressed a desire to contribute on both sides of the ball, making the decision even more challenging.
The Jaguars may have already decided which position Hunter will play, but the team has remained tight-lipped as they continue to evaluate his performance. Coaches are looking for where he can make the biggest impact and provide value to the squad. This flexibility could become a strategic advantage as the season approaches.
While the final decision remains uncertain, one thing is clear: Hunterâs versatility has sparked a lively debate among fans and analysts. Whether he lines up defending passes or catching them, the Jaguars are betting on his athleticism and football IQ to be a game-changer in the 2025 NFL season.
