C.J. Stroud is no longer just a promising young talent — he has undoubtedly become a true force in the NFL. The question now is whether he can eventually lead his Houston Texans to the league’s biggest stages. The good news for him is that the organization is committed to building around him, and their latest potential addition could be a former teammate of Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to recent reports, the Texans are expected to sign former Raiders first-round cornerback Damon Arnette, who most recently played for the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL.
The news was reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who shared further details about this intriguing move by DeMeco Ryans’ team through his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
“NFL comeback story: #Texans are expected to sign former #Raiders first-round CB Damon Arnette, per source, who now returns to the NFL for the first time since 2022. Arnette just finished playing with the UFL’s Houston Roughnecks, recording 18 tackles, a sack, and a pick-six. Now he stays in Houston but with an NFL team,” the insider reported via @Schultz_Report.

Cornerback Damon Arnette #20 of the Las Vegas Raiders smiles as he walks off the field after the team’s 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in a preseason game at Allegiant Stadium on August 14, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
After a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins, the former Ohio State Buckeyes standout also spent time on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad in 2022.

What to expect from the Texans this upcoming season
The Houston Texans enter the upcoming season with high expectations and a clear goal: to reassert their dominance in the AFC South. With C.J. Stroud emerging as one of the league’s most promising quarterbacks and DeMeco Ryans leading a disciplined roster, Houston looks well-positioned to control their division once again.
Beyond the divisional race, the Texans know that every win matters. Securing as many victories as possible will be key to improving their playoff seeding and avoiding early postseason matchups against the AFC’s elite. Depth and consistency will play a major role throughout the regular season.
While Houston remains focused on one week at a time, there’s no denying the bigger picture. If Stroud continues his upward trajectory and the defense lives up to expectations, the Texans could be a legitimate threat to make a deep playoff run — with a Super Bowl appearance not entirely out of the question.
