The Tennessee Titans are entering a new era under Cam Ward. The quarterback, taken first overall in the most recent NFL Draft, is tasked with giving this franchise a 180° turn. However, one teammate won’t be along for the ride, at least this season, as he will miss it after opting to get surgery.
This teammate is none other than former QB1 Will Levis. According to Ian Rapoport, from NFL Network, Levis’ surgery on his throwing shoulder will take place on July 29 and will effectively end his 2025 season.
Levis was scheduled to be Cam Ward’s backup this year. However, after discussion with different medical teams, he elected to ensure long-term health by getting his shoulder fully repaired.
Levis failed to secure his starting role
Will Levis is entering his third year as an NFL quarterback. He has started 21 out of 36 games but unfortunately, that is more due to the Titans’ lack of talent on the position rather than Levis setting the league on fire. He has a career 61% on passing completion, 3,899 career-yards, 21 touchdowns, 16 interceptions and an 82.7 passer rate. Not to mention, 17 fumbles.

Will Levis #8 of the Tennessee Titans kneels before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium on December 29, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida.
His decision-making has also been abysmal at times, where even the team’s head coach, Brian Callahan has called him out publicly and on the sidelines. Drafted in the second round, expectations for Levis weren’t sky-high, but they were better than what he’s shown.

Maybe a year out is what he really needs
Now, the ship is under Cam Ward‘s command. However, having to sit a year might be a good thing for Levis. He can recover fully, reassess, and come back stronger. Also, while the team’s hope is for Ward to become a franchise quarterback, there is no guarantee he will ball out from the get-go.
If Ward slips, Levis will probably have another shot to at least compete again. His focus must be on recovering fully and getting back to a 100%. Then, learn and improve. The Titans are looking for the guy to bring this franchise to a satisfying place. While Levis hasn’t been that guy, he is still relatively young to turn his career around in 2026.
