Despite a turmoil sophomore season in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks, Connor Bedard continues to cement his name in league history with impressive stats at just 19 years of age. After scoring during the Hawks’ 6-2 defeat against the Seattle Kraken, Bedard reached a feat no player had accomplished since Sidney Crosby did with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Bedard’s second year in the NHL has been far from a dream, and nowhere near the bar set by his rookie campaign. With the Blackhawks languishing at the bottom of the standings, the 19-year-old has been in the eye of the storm, as his production has been in the low during the season. However, Bedard still leads the team in points during the season.
Connor snapped his three-game point drought by scoring a power play goal against the Kraken. Luck was finally on Bedard’s side, as a fortunate bounce ricocheted his pass into the back of the net. Regardless, that was as much luck as Bedard and the Blackhawks would get, as they went on to endure a beatdown by the Kraken.
With his goal, the 18th of the season for Bedard, the franchise lynchpin in Chi-town reached the 40-goal mark in his career, achieving a milestone no player had reached since Crosby.

Sidney Crosby #87 of the Pittsburgh Penguins waits for a faceoff in the second period of a game against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on March 07, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Blackhawks’ star became the first player since the Penguins‘ captain to score 40 goals and 70 assists before turning 20 years old in the NHL. Despite being in a bit of a slump, Bedard continues to make history night after night, showcasing immense potential as a teenager in the league.

The comparisons between Crosby and Bedard have been loud ever since the North Vancouver talent broke onto the scene during his junior league years. Dubbed a generational talent, it was only natural that Bedard was linked to Sid the Kid.The story came full circle when the 2023 first overall pick made his NHL debut against the Pens.
However, the two continue to be compared. Recently, Chicago interim head coach Anders Sorensen made a big parallelism between ‘Bedsy’ and Crosby.

Top NHL prospect Connor Bedard speaks with the media prior to Game Two of the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on June 05, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I’m really impressed with how he handles it,” Sorensen said about Bedard, after recent game misconducts. “It’s human nature to get to some points that he’s gotten over the last couple games. I remember Sidney Crosby went through a lot of that. I remember Peter Forsberg came into the league mild-mannered off the ice, but on the ice, it happens, right? They want to win. They want to be successful.“
