Morgan Geekie has emerged as one of the Boston Bruins‘ most consistent and valuable players, earning the admiration of both fans and management. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has publicly expressed his desire to secure the 26-year-old’s long-term future with the franchise.
Geekie’s performance, marked by his versatility and ability to contribute in various game situations, has convinced the organization of his potential as a key piece in the team’s rebuilding efforts.
“He’s done a great job, obviously,” Sweeney recently told NHL.com’s Amalie Benjamin. “He’s earned more opportunity now. He’s riding shotgun on a very productive line, and he’s taken advantage of it. It’s great on him.”
Sweeney continued, “Can he continue to expand his game and be one of the building blocks and core pieces moving forward? That’s what we’re going to try and find out this summer. … He’s identified this as a place he wants to play, and we’ve got work to do to find a contract, and that’s what we’ll do. I believe we’ll get one done.”

Geekie has proven his worth by playing alongside the likes of Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak, while also securing a spot on the main power-play unit, further solidifying his status as a crucial player in the Bruins‘ system.

Geekie: A pillar in the Bruins’ rebuild
In a constantly evolving roster that has seen the departure of key players like Brad Marchand and Brandon Carlo, Geekie has remained a steady presence. Sweeney’s comments indicate that management is committed to securing the future of the Strathclair, Manitoba, native.
Geekie’s continued development suggests he will be a central piece in the Bruins‘ long-term plans. However, the organization cannot afford to wait until the end of the 2024-25 season to make key decisions. After an eight-year playoff streak, the Bruins now face the real possibility of missing the postseason for the first time since 2015-16.
Bruins struggle to rebuild in a difficult time
“We have to be better than that and start building something here,“ Pastrnak said after Wednesday night’s 6-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. “Because right now, we have nothing.”

The absence of key players such as Marchand, Carlo, Charlie McAvoy, and Hampus Lindholm has further compounded the Bruins‘ struggles, leaving the team in a precarious position. With little sign of improvement in the final stretch of the NHL season, serious questions loom over the franchise’s immediate future.
