The San Jose Sharks are showing they’ve secured valuable experience by signing a former teammate of Alex Ovechkin and Brad Marchand. A player who spent time with both the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins is definitely a profile worth considering, especially when he’s also a Stanley Cup champion.
San Jose strengthens its defense amid a rebuild, adding veteran leadership while maintaining financial flexibility. The Sharks moved quickly to secure an experienced player on a deal designed to bolster their blue line and help them meet the league’s minimum salary floor.
The player joining the Sharks is none other than veteran defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who will play in San Jose on a two-year, $13 million contract (AAV of $6.5 million). He arrives after a stint with the Carolina Hurricanes, in addition to an extended run with the Capitals and a spell with the Bruins. Now, Orlov has broken his silence on joining his new team.
Orlov’s admission about joining the Sharks
“Right now, it’s a new chapter, a new fresh start for me with a new team, a young team, too. Everybody has their own story and own career. So I learned on my way, and I just need to be more focused as an older guy, more experienced. I expect one thing, but you need to just focus day by day, basically,” Orlov said in an interview with NHL.com.
