The Boston Bruins lost once again during their West Coast road trip in the NHL, suffering a gut-wrenching defeat against the leagueâs worst team, the San Jose Sharks. Following the 3-1 loss at SAP Center, interim head coach Joe Sacco issued a harsh comment about the Bruinsâ performance.
The Bruins are mired in a morale-draining five-game losing streak during the 2024-25 NHL campaign. With their postseason hopes hanging on by a thread, the âSpoked Bâ fell to the most unlikely opponent, the languishing Sharks.
Saccoâs team collapsed during the final period, conceding late goals to San Jose, crushing their playoffs optimism. After the game, the interim head coach voiced a sincere message to his players.
âJust unable to capitalize on some of our scoring opportunities that we had, especially in the third period,â Sacco said postgame, via NESN. âWe got enough off the forecheck, I thought.

Boston Bruins skate by and celebrate with their teammates after a goal by Koepke against the Tampa Bay Lightning during the second period at the Amalie Arena on March 8, 2025 in Tampa, Florida.
âI didnât think that we did enough to get on the inside, and thatâs a product of us not just taking the goaltenderâs eyes away. Maybe a better job of getting on the inside, creating some more net-front traffic, but just unable to capitalize.â

Postseason fading in the distance

Their eight-year playoff streak could come to an end, with the last time the âSpoked Bâ missed the postseason being during the 2015-16 NHL season. It seems unlikely theyâll make the playoffs this year, as their recent lackluster performances continue to drag them down in the standings.
Turn the tide
With no margin of error, the Bruins continue their road trip with a pivotal meeting against the Los Angeles Kings on March 23 at Crypto.com Arena. They will close out their road trip on the West Coast with a visit to the Anaheim Ducks on March 26.
