Sidney Crosby has been involved in many rumors in recent weeks about his future in the NHL. The Pittsburgh Penguins are far from being Stanley Cup contenders, and that has led multiple insiders to suggest that the possibility of a trade is real.
During a debate about the Montreal Canadiens in SportsNet 590 The Fan, Nick Kypreos spoke about the possibility of Crosby being traded right after the 2026 Olympic Games, which will be held in Milan-Cortina.
“Wait until they get Sidney Crosby after the Olympics. I’m liking the odds a little better that I did maybe a few weeks ago (of Crosby playing for another team). I don’t know what’s going in Pittsburgh, but something’s going on in Pitt. Things are going on in Pitt. He’s too good right now to just be a babysitter for the next three years. This guy can play peak. It will be such a disservice to the history for our game if we watch him stay in Pittsburgh the next three or four years.”
Is Sidney Crosby leaving Penguins?
Sidney Crosby isn’t leaving the Penguins for now. In fact, when the rumors pointed to a trade to a championship contender, even Nathan MacKinnon came to his defense to clarify that it was all fake news. His agent also denied any possibility that Crosby is planning to leave Pittsburgh anytime soon.
However, the big question is whether a poor start to the 2025–2026 season could lead Crosby to reconsider his future. That’s why the trade deadline, just weeks after the Olympics, could be historic.
