Columbus Crew are not the winningest team in MLS history but they’re doing the right things to be competitive in the past couple of years. This team aren’t the most popular in the country but their project has gotten more and more fans, especially this season. 

The Crew are coming off winning the MLS Cup final against the Seattle Sounders, adding another title to their history in American soccer. They have done good things during the season and it was only right that they won hte ultimate price.

Columbus have had interesting things in recent years and they will have plenty of opportunities to add more silverware to their collection in the foreseeable future. That is why we’re going to take a look at every MLS Cup title they have won. 

Every MLS Cup title in Columbus Crew history

2008 MLS Cup: The 2008 MLS season was magical for the Crew. Led by Guillermo Barros Schelotto, they were just great, even though they struggled to find a good version. Barros Schelotto and Sigi Schmid turned things around and the team ended the season with the best record in the league. 

They beat Kansas City Wizards in the Eastern Conference semifinals before playing against Chicago Fire, their archrivals, in the Conference Finals. Columbus beat the Fire with a 2-1 result that took them to their first-ever MLS Cup final. 

They played against New York Red Bulls, who also landed in their first MLS Cup in club history. Well, Columbus was terrific against the New Yorkers, with Barros Schelotto once again showing his class, assisting all three goals that his team scored during that game. They ended up winning the match 3-1, to win their first MLS Cup title.

2020 MLS Cup: Columbus Crew had to wait another 12 years before being able to lift the trophy at the end of the season. This time, however, they led from start to finish and proved that they were the most consistent team in Major League Soccer.

Columbus Crew finished in third place with 41 points, trailing just Philadelphia Union (47) and Toronto FC (44). They won 12 games with 5 ties and 6 losses, scoring 36 goals while conceding 21.

Then, they got past the New York Red Bulls, Nashville SC, and New England Revolution before facing off vs. the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Cup final. As you may know by now, they ended up on top with an emphatic 3-0 win.
