Maradona led his country to a win in the 1986 FIFA World Cup at Mexico and starred inthree other editions. However, he had to say goodbye to his team in the most infamous way after a failed drug test in 1994.

El Diego tested positive forephedrine doping and even though he claimed he was set up – and it clearly seemed like FIFA were looking to make an example out of him and taint his legacy – he just couldn’t play again in that edition.

That’s why those who were in attendance at Foxborough during that group stage game between Argentina and Greece actually had the honor to witness Maradona’s last goal with his national team. Ever.

Diego got a nice assist by Fernando Redondo and sent a strong shot past the Greekkeeper. Then, he had one of his most iconic celebrations, running and screaming towards the camera to silence his critics.

Maradona would go on to play in Argentina’s next clash vs. Nigeria, handing out a couple of assists to lead his team to a 2-1 win even at his 34 years. Sadly, he would never find the bottom of the nets again with his beloved nation.
