Diriangen havenot played in the Concacaf League since 2018 when they had their first league experience. That first experience was relatively good as Diriangen won in the preliminary round and they reached the Round of 16 where they lost to Universitario 7-1 on aggregate.

Marathon had a couple of good seasons in the Concacaf League. In the third edition of 2019 they had their debut in the league against Comunicaciones (Guatemala), in the first leg they lost 2-1, but in the second game they draw 1-1. The aggregate left them out of the next phase. But in the 2020 edition, Marathon made it all the way to the quarterfinals.

Marathon accomplished something amazing last year in the 2020 Concacaf League. Last season’s result, two wins against Antigua GFC and Saprissa to reach the quarterfinals, was enough for them to qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Marathon won Group B of the Apertura in Honduras last season, and this year they are favorites to win either phase.
