El Salvador and Qatar will meet today, July 4, in an international friendly match at Stadion Aldo Drosina, in Croatia, to keep with the preparation for the 2021 Gold Cup. The World Cup 2022 hosts are invited to the tournament as a part of a strategic partnership with Concacaf. 

As the regional tournament approaches, these two teams are wrapping up their preparation. Qatar has been getting competitive matches ahead of the big tournament next year, since becoming the World Cup 2022 host. 

El Salvador, on the other hand, is coming off from booking a place in the last round of World Cup qualifiers after beating Saint Kitts and Nevis over two legs in June. Then, they drew 0-0 with Guatemala in a friendly.

This will be the first match between these national teams. However, El Salvador has faced teams from the Asian Federation. Against China, La Selecta drew 2-2 in 2008 and they were defeated 2-0 by Japan in 2019. 

On the other hand, Qatar has faced three teams from Concacaf. They lost against Haiti in 2010 (1-0) and against Curazao in 2017 (2-1). They managed to get a draw 1-1 against Costa Rica last year. 

In their last six games, Qatar has five victories and a draw 1-1 with the Republic of Ireland. On the other side, El Salvador had four triumphs and two draws without conceding a goal before they lost against NK Istra, the club of the city of Pula, where they are training in Croatia.
