Mexico head to the Gold Cup 2021 as favorites to claim a back-to-back title as Gerardo Martino submitted a powerful list of players to seek the trophy. However, Chicharito Hernandez won't be part of El Tri's squad to fight for the championship.

The Los Angeles Galaxy superstar has been a complete standout at the beginning of the 2021 MLS Regular Season, scoring an impressive number of goals in the first weeks and proving to still be a dependable striker at 33 years of age.

Unfortunately for him, Chicharito's form hasn't been enough to catch Martino's attention and he wasn't considered for the Mexican national team that will face the upcoming 2021 Gold Cup. Here, find out the reasons.

It's been a while since the former Manchester United player has worn the national team colors. Despite being one of the side's faces since his fantastic rise to stardom, Chicharito suddenly lost his spot and has missed international soccer for a long time.

Chicharito has been left out of the Mexico national team since his involvement in a controversial episode in 2019. During an international window, Chicharito and other players apparently went out partying and the coaching staff didn't like that behavior at all.

Although Martino denied that was the reason for not calling up Chicharito, truth is that he hasn't selected the LA Galaxy player since then. However, the former Barcelona coach has been struggling to find a reliable No. 9 from then on.

Martino ended up selecting Argentina-born Rogelio Funes Mori, who has recently obtained Mexican citizenship and FIFA's approval to switch national teams. Will he regret not calling up Chicharito for the 2021 Gold Cup?
