South Korea and Mexico will play until their last breath at Yokohama Stadium on July 31, 2021, at 4:00 AM (ET) to seek a place in the semifinals of the Men’s Soccer Tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Both teams were dominant in their groups, but only one is going to play in the next round.

Some critics say South Korea had some luck at the 2020 Olympics. Group B was dominated by the Koreans, but their debut at the 2020Olympics was a 1-0 loss to New Zealand on July 22, 2021. Otherwise, all the rest were victories against Honduras and Romania.

On the other hand is Mexico, El Tri was second in Group A with 6 points, 2 wins, and a single loss. The Mexicans’ only loss was against South Africa on July 28, 2021. So far Mexico is doing a good job in the Men’s Soccer Tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

South Korea vs Mexico: Storylines

South Korea is good at soccer. It’s true, the Koreans won a Bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. That victory was 2-0 against Japan. But the most interesting thing is that South Korea had lost in the semifinals 3-0 against Brazil. And the final in that edition of the Olympic games was between Mexico and Brazil. The gold was won by the Mexicans.

Mexico knows what it’s like to play against South Korea. The most recent game between them was a friendly in 2020, the Mexicans won, but they suffered with a final scoreboard of 3-2. Since 1998 the two national teams, Mexico and South Korea, have played 4 games, all of which were victories for the Mexicans.

The Koreans are in good shape, they want to win and seek something more than a bronze medal. By numbers, South Korea is much better. The Asians scored 10 goals at the 2020 Olympic Games and they barely allowed a single goal. The Mexicans for their part scored eight goals and allowed only three. But Mexico’s defeat against Japan left many doubts about how El Tri will play against another Asian team.
