Tokyo 2020 Paralympics: How many athletes are in 2021 Paralympic Games?

Athletes with disabilities are sent to the Paralympics to compete against the best in the world at their same levels. Nations select a special group of athletes to represent the colors of the country's flag.

The selection of each of the athletes to represent a country in the 2020 Paralympics Games in Tokyo is rigorous as in any other tournament. Countries around the world make sure to send the best to compete against other nations. The qualification and competition process at the local and regional level is high.

There are thousands of athletes in this edition of theParalympics. The exact number of athletes is 4,537. Countries that participate in the 2020 Paralympic Games usually already have previous experience from other editions and almost always send athletes to compete in the same sports from other editions.

The athletes arriving in Japan, specificallyat the city of Tokyo, will use the same facilities that were inhabited by the athletes of the 2020 Summer Olympics. Some accesses were modified for athletes using wheelchairs.
