Tokyo 2020: When do the Olympics end?

On Friday, July23, the Tokyo Olympics will officially openin the New National Stadium, where the ceremony will begin. No other supporters except the VIP guests of the International Olympic Committee will be permitted in the stadium for the event and the same shall apply to other venues throughout two weeks of the Games.

The 2020 Olympics should start 364 days later than originally planned, as theywere postponed as a result of the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. TheInternational Olympic Committee(IOC) has decided to go through with the 2020 Tokyo SummerOlympics, in spite of considerable criticism and protest in Tokyo and Japan as a result of the growing number of new cases.

Some sports, such as the soccer and softball competitions, have already begunbefore the opening ceremony, thus the official sportsaction hasstarted on Wednesday, July 21. Find out when the2020 Tokyo Olympics will end.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics conclude on August 8, 2021, with focus swiftly shifting to the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, and the 2024 Summer OlympicGames in Paris.

Organizers had to revise their initial plans because of the coronavirus pandemicthat delayed the Summer Olympics for 12 months. It isthe first time in the 124-year history of the Games, that one edition has been delayed.

The initial program was drawn up justbefore the Gamesin March 2020,as they were supposedto take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. The event kept Tokyo 2020’s brand name for the sake of branding despite the postponement.
