On Friday, July 23, the Tokyo Olympics will officially open in the New National Stadium, where the ceremony will begin. No other supporters except the VIP guests of the International Olympic Committee will be permitted in the stadium for the event and the same shall apply to other venues throughout two weeks of the Games.

Some sports, such as the soccer and softball competitions, have already begun before the opening ceremony, thus the official sports action has started on Wednesday, July 21. Find out when the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will end.

When are the 2020 Tokyo Olympics over?

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics conclude on August 8, 2021, with focus swiftly shifting to the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, and the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Organizers had to revise their initial plans because of the coronavirus pandemic that delayed the Summer Olympics for 12 months. It is the first time in the 124-year history of the Games, that one edition has been delayed.

The initial program was drawn up just before the Games in March 2020, as they were supposed to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. The event kept Tokyo 2020's brand name for the sake of branding despite the postponement.
