The Olympic Games 2020 are underway and Team USA is looking to be the country with more medals at the end of them. There are many known athletes representing the United States such as Simone Biles and Katie Ledeckie, but, of course, there are more athletes who will try to reach glory in Tokyo. 

It’s undeniable that the United States is the most successful nation at the Summer Olympics. The US athletes have won 2,530 medals in the Summer Olympics so far. And they are able to reach 3,000 medals in Tokyo 2020 thanks to a formidable squad. 

This year, the US Olympic team is the second with the most athletes, since the 1996 Atlanta Games, where 646 athletes represented the U.S. Also, this year the team has more women than men, for the third consecutive Games. How many athletes represent the United States in Tokyo 2020?

There are 613 American Olympians who qualified for Tokyo 2020 in 36 different disciplines. Of them, 193 are returning Olympians, and 104 are Olympic medalists. The track team has the most members with 130 athletes. While, canoe sprint has the fewest with only one U.S. athlete, Nevin Harrison.

On the other hand, there will be American athletes in 44 sports in Japan. Of the 338 medal events contested in Tokyo, the United States will have at least one athlete or team in 268 of those events. Also, these 613 athletes from Team USA are the largest delegation by a non-host nation.
