Zhuhai Championships 2021: Why has the ATP 205 tournament been canceled?

After the China Open and Japan Open were dropped off the 2021 calendar, the Zhuhai Championships, Chengdu Open, and Shanghai Masters were the only Asian events left. Despite predictions that these competitions may go place this year, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of all three tournaments.

Thus, the ATP revealed the newest changes to its schedule, the impact of the coronavirus worldwide pandemic is still being felt. The ATP has confirmed that the Rolex Shanghai Masters will not take place in 2021, marking the second year in a row that the tournament has been postponed due to COVID-19.

The Chengdu Open and Zhuhai Championships, both ATP 250 events, as well as the Maharashtra Open in Pune, have all been canceled.  In their stead, an ATP 250 tournament will be held on indoor hard courts in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, on September 20-26, and an ATP 250 tournament will be held on hard courts at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego from September 27 to October 3.
