Embiid rose to prominence and became a perennial MVP candidate, all while Simmons struggled to take a leap forward, especially in the postseason. It reached a point where he became the team’s scapegoat.

The former first-overall pick claimed that he was struggling mentally in Philadelphia, which is why he wasn’t able to play. Now, multiple injuries later, he’s a non-factor on a losing team.

That doesn’t mean he’s one of the best <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklyn Nets</a> ever, not by a mile.



Durant’s tenure in Brooklyn was dark and full of controversy, drama, and shortcomings. It wasn’t his fault for the most part, but it wasn’t an enjoyable moment for the fans, the organization, or even his teammates.



That’s why he admits that there should be no point in him getting any sort of tribute or video from the organization, and he simply didn’t do anything to earn that honor.



<h2>Durant Says He Doesn’t Deserve A Tribute From The Nets</h2>



“What did I do to deserve that? Seriously, or is it because of my name?” Durant asked. “I’m just another player, man. I don’t deserve none of this extra attention, everybody looking at me when the game starts. The game is about all the players on the court. It ain’t about me. I was there for three years, four years and we didn’t accomplish anything worth being celebrated for. That’s just how I feel. I didn’t feel like I stayed there long enough. I didn’t put in enough work. I didn’t leave a lasting impact.”

Needless to say, those words rubbed some fans the wrong way, as usually happens with everything revolving around Durant. That’s why he took some time to explain his reasoning, adding that he didn’t even ask for any of this:



“I’m not expecting people to praise me or honor me,” Durant said. “I didn’t even pose the question. Somebody else brought it up randomly out of nowhere. I just gave them my input on that. I don’t feel like I deserve one. I didn’t feel like I stayed there long enough. I didn’t put in enough work. I didn’t leave a lasting impact.”



At the end of the day, Kevin Durant will go down as one of the greatest players without a single fan base rooting for him. That’s, of course, unless he leads the P<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/phoenix-suns" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">hoenix Suns</a> to an NBA championship.



Durant’s words have often been misinterpreted, and his unapologetic and harsh nature has helped him be portrayed as this kind of villain who won’t tolerate any sort of criticism or comment about him.

Simmons was hyped during the offseason and admitted that he owed it to the fans to go back to being the best version of himself. He looked great in open runs — as per usual — but once again, he hasn’t been able to show that when it actually counts.



His nagging back injuries continue to keep him off the court. He’s missed his team’s past 22 games, with the Brooklyn Nets going 13-15 for the season and clearly needing his playmaking and elite defense.



Even when he was on the court, he wasn’t much of a contributor, averaging roughly 6.5 points, a career-best 10.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists, with his team going 3-3 when he was healthy.

<h2>Simmons Has Reached A New Low Point</h2>



When asked about the status of his career, the former No. 1 pick admitted that this is probably the most frustrated he’s ever been. It’s not about holding out, leverage, money, or even mental issues this time. He really wants to be on the floor:



“It’s probably one of the most frustrating points in my career just because I wanna be out there to help my team win and compete,” Simmons told the media before the Nets- Nuggets game. “But at the end of the day, it’s one of those things that’s a part of sports. Not every game’s promised. Injuries happen. Unfortunately, it happens. So, for me, it’s just focusing on what I can do now and doing what I can to get back on the floor and contribute.”



<h2>There’s No Timetable For His Return</h2>



The most frustrating part about this is that there’s not a legitimate timetable for his return. This has been a lingering issue for years now, and he’s been quite injury-prone and has taken way more time to heal than the average NBA player.



“I have no expectations,” Simmons said of a potential return. “I just come in every day and work. I think that’s one of the things about having injuries like this. I’ve known not to put too much pressure on the exact date or whatever it is. It’s just continue to get better and get to a point where you can play. Honestly, I wish it was a sprained ankle. It’s one of those things where you just don’t know. But we’ve seen a lot of progress, which has been a good thing. It’s very positive.”

<h2>Time To Call It Quits?</h2>



It’s crazy to think that Simmons was a Defensive Player of the Year candidate just some years ago, and he’s still just 27 years old. But no one seems to believe in him anymore, and it just feels like he’s never going to be healthy and able to play for a full season.

<h2>Nets Could’ve Kept Durant</h2>



“If Simmons had been healthy last season, sources told The Post that Kevin Durant likely would’ve stayed on in Brooklyn even without Kyrie Irving,” wrote Lewis. “Now the Nets can only hope to get Simmons back to his old self to form a building block alongside Mikal Bridges, who arrived in the Durant trade.”

Simmons arrived in Brooklyn as the centerpiece of the James Harden trade. Being a former first-overall pick and still in his prime, expectations were sky-high for him. Then, an injured back and some mental health issues prevented the former <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Philadelphia 76ers</a> star from making an impact.



<h2>Simmons Knows He’s In Debt</h2>



Simmons recently admitted that he owes it to Nets fans to get back to full strength and regain his All-Star form. He’s one of the best playmakers and defenders in the league when he’s healthy, and he’s still quite young, so he could be an impactful guy for Jacque Vaughn’s team:



“I never have excuses, I never tried to say anything about different things going on. But I was dealing with an injury at the time, so I did what I could in the moment,” Simmons said, per NBC Sports. “And I owe it to everybody, the fans and everybody, to get back to where I need to be. That’s what I did this summer to get back.”



He looked sharp in his preseason debut vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, scoring 10 points with three assists and one seal in 14 minutes of action. The Nets could look to ease him back into action after such a long layoff, especially considering he’s dealt with foot, knee, calf, shoulder, wrist, and even elbow injuries in the past.

This could be a switch-heavy team on defense with an up-tempo offense.



<h2>Nets Need To Compete</h2>



With Durant out of town, the Nets are no longer a championship-caliber team, but that doesn’t mean they’ll just give up and tank. The Houston Rockets have the right to swap first-round picks with them, so they have no incentive to tank next season.

While one may debate whether he or Bridges could carry an upper-half offense on their own, in tandem, they might hit most of the statistical marks expected from a first and second option.



And on defense, forget about it. They’d cover an absurd amount of ground together, and that’s before accounting for the many other stoppers Brooklyn would have on the roster, like Nic Claxton, Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale.

The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets">Brooklyn Nets</a> are set to enter the 2023-2024 <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/nba">NBA </a>season with a relatively strong roster, despite the fact that they don’t have the big names of a couple of years ago. One of their guards has become eligible for a $128 million extension.



So far, the Brooklyn Nets have only one player with a contract over $100 million: <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/ben-simmons">Ben Simmons</a>, who is signed for a total of $177 million. Cameron Johnson comes close to that amount with a $90 million contract.



Last season was abysmal for the Nets. They reached the playoffs but were swept by the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/philadelphia-76ers">Philadelphia 76ers</a> 0-4. The goal for the 2023-2024 season is to return to the playoffs and go much further.

According to an article published in the New York Post by Brian Lewis, the Brooklyn Nets guard who became eligible on Monday, August 14 for a $128 million extension is Spencer Dinwiddie.



Dinwiddie has a 3-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets. His contract expires in 2024, so the Nets have enough time before the start of the 2023-2024 season to offer him an extension over $100 million.



Brian Lewis writes in the article that Spencer is unlikely to get that big extension that he was fighting for a couple of seasons ago, when he had to settle for a $54 million contract.

Nonetheless, even though no one else seems to be buying his stock right now, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/brooklyn-nets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklyn Nets</a> forward Cam Johnson recently praised Simmons and believes he’s in for a big season.

“He’s very important to us,” Johnson said. “There’s things that he does on the court that not many players in the NBA can do. And he adds something that is very valuable to myself, Spencer [Dinwiddie], Mikal [Bridges] and being able to set us up and get us shots and play in flow like that.

The talent and physical traits are there, but at this point, we just have to see it to believe it. We can’t go through this every single year, and it’s about time he either breaks out, or he doesn’t.

“Portland Trail Blazers acquire Spencer Dinwiddie and a 2027 first-round pick (via PHI; top-eight protected) for Anfernee Simons.



Anfernee Simons just turned 24 and proved himself as an efficient 20-point scorer this past season, but his position in the Blazers’ backcourt pecking order is uncertain with Scoot Henderson on board and Shaedon Sharpe right there with him. The other issue with Simons is that he makes the possible acquisition of Tyler Herro from the Miami Heat an apparent nonstarter in a hypothetical Damian Lillard trade.

Even Dinwiddie might fetch a protected first-rounder at the 2024 deadline. If the Blazers are truly starting fresh, positional gluts shouldn’t matter. They need to be in asset-accumulation mode.



In Simons, Brooklyn gets someone who fits its younger timeline and can share creation duties with Mikal Bridges and his rapidly expanding game. “

Then again, this is just a proposal, so this may never happen. But, given how the Blazers’ current roster is shaped, it would make sense for them to cut Simons loose and build around Sharpe and Henderson.
