Argentina and Canada meet again in the 2024 Copa America
With tonight's game, the 2024 Copa America will see Argentina and Canada face each other more times than ever before.
This will be the second time they meet in this competition and just the third time overall. Before they clashed in the opening game, their only game was a commanding friendly win by La Albiceleste ahead of the South Africa 2010 World Cup.
“It’s going to take everything,” Davies said, via NDTV. “Going into this game, we know what’s on the line. We win and go forward, we lose and go home. They’re going to come out with everything. We’re hungrier than ever, we expect a battle — as they should.”
“The game against Argentina will have to be the best we’ve ever played… We’re not going to sit back and just try to defend. We will be aggressive,” Marsch said. “We’re going to try to play the way we want to play and see if we can keep it up.”
Tonight's stage
Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey; MetLife Stadium has been home to the NFL teams New York Jets and New York Giants since it opened in 2010.
This venue, which boasts a 82,500 capacity, has also witnessed countless soccer games. Before being selected as one of the 2024 Copa America venues, it was home to the Copa America Centenario final in 2016. On that occasion, Argentina lost to penalties on Chile.
The MetLife Stadium is set to host even more high-profile matches, including none less than the 2026 World Cup final.
Canada's lineup confirmed!
These are the 11 players chosen by Jesse Marsch to represent Canada against Argentina tonight:
Tonight's referees
It will be an almost full Chilean referee team for tonight's match. Piero Maza will be officiating the game, with fellow countrymen Claudio Urrutia and José Retamal as his assistants, while Juan Lara will be at VAR.
Fortunately, the Inter Miami start is starting for the defending champions tonight, captaining La Albiceleste as they look to go back-to-back in this year's Copa America.
Argentina's starting lineup vs Canada: Emiliano Martinez; Gonzalo Montiel, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martinez, Nicolas Tagliafico; Rodrigo de Paul, Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister; Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez, Angel Di Maria.
