The Green Bay Packers are one of the most historied franchises around the National Football League. Nonetheless, they’ve failed to live up to those standards over the past couple of decades, not winning a Super Bowl since 2010 and just 2 in the past 25 years.
Don’t get me wrong. The Packers have been perennial contenders with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers leading the way during that span. But they just haven’t been able to turn the corner and live up to their history.
That’s why, amid all the speculation and his alleged desire to leave, Aaron Rodgers made it pretty clear that the Packers won’t be fooling around this season: The time to win another Super Bowl has come.
Packers News: Aaron Rodgers Says It’s “Championship Or Disappointment” This Year
“I think we all know what’s at stake,” Rodgers told NBC Sports’ ProFootballTalk. “I talked about that a little bit the other day about perspective and how important that perspective is to focus on this season and enjoy the most out of this season, because there are a lot of unknowns.”
Rodgers weighed in on the Packers’ current salary cap situation. The Packers will be last in cap space next season so bringing back most starters will be tough. Therefore, it’s championship or nothing at Lambeau Field this year:
“They jumped through some hoops to get under the cap this year,” the quarterback added. “Obviously, the cap is expected to go back up next year but you never know. So we’re just going to enjoy this season. It’s Title Town. It’s championship or disappointment.”
Rodgers’ future is still up in the air and no one can tell for sure what’s going to happen after this year. He even said that he considered retiring instead of reporting to training camp. So there will be a lot of pressure at Green Bay this season…
