The Houston Texans proved to be a tough and resilient team last NFL season, but the bar is set even higher now. Their goal moving forward is clear: reach the Super Bowl. CJ Stroud will have several new weapons on offense, all aiming to help the quarterback achieve that mission.
Last season is now behind them, as the Texans once again claimed the AFC South with a solid 10-7 record. However, DeMeco Ryans’ team ran into an inspired Patrick Mahomes, who dashed any hopes of the Texans advancing further in the playoffs.
Many new faces—and others who won’t be returning—are the result of a team that no longer wants to be just a guest at the party. Instead, they aim to become the main protagonists in the upcoming season.
Berrios, a new weapon for CJ Stroud
Braxton Berrios, a veteran of many battles in the league, agreed to join the Texans after signing a one-year deal. The talented wide receiver expressed excitement about what’s ahead and arrives as a new option for CJ Stroud in the Texans’ offense.
“It’s been awesome,” Berrios said during an interview on Texans Radio. “This facility, this coaching staff, the team, it’s been a very easy transition, knowing a decent amount of guys before getting here. And then, obviously, once OTAs started, seeing everybody, and getting to know the rest of the crew, we have an amazing group here.”
Berrios made his NFL debut after being selected in the 2018 Draft by the New England Patriots with the 210th overall pick in the sixth round. He later spent time with two other AFC East rivals — the New York Jets and, most recently, the Miami Dolphins.
Texans 2025 outlook: contenders or pretenders?
The Houston Texans enter the upcoming NFL season with heightened expectations and a clear goal: win the AFC South once again and make a serious run at the Super Bowl. After a strong 2024 campaign, head coach DeMeco Ryans has built a competitive roster that’s determined to take the next step.
CJ Stroud will continue to be the focal point of the offense. His development and leadership will be crucial as the Texans integrate new weapons and aim for greater consistency. A more dynamic and balanced attack could make Houston one of the most dangerous teams in the conference.
On the defensive side, Ryans will focus on tightening a unit that showed promise but needs to improve in key moments. With a mix of veteran presence and emerging talent, the Texans are shaping up to be more than just a playoff team—they’re positioning themselves as legitimate contenders.
