Travis Kelce is on the verge of securing his fourth Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs, alongside his quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has been instrumental in the franchise’s success. As the Chiefs chase their third straight title, Kelce also has a chance to break a Jerry Rice record for Super Bowl receptions.

According to the stats, Jerry Rice currently holds the record for the most career receptions in Super Bowl history with 33 across multiple appearances. Kelce, sitting at 31, needs just three more catches from Mahomes to surpass the legendary wide receiver’s mark.

Kelce shares a special place in the postseason with Jerry Rice, as they are the only players with over 2,000 receiving yards and 20+ receiving touchdowns (StatMuse). It’s worth noting that Rice took 15 years to achieve his 2,245 yards and 22 touchdowns, whereas Kelce has done it in just 10 years, with 2,039 yards and 20 touchdowns.

So far in the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes has thrown a total of 12 passes to Kelce, of which he has caught 9. Most of these receptions came in the game against the Texans, where he had 7 receptions out of 8 targets. In the more challenging game against the Bills for the conference title, he managed to catch only 2 out of 6 passes.

This isn’t the first time Kelce has surpassed Jerry Rice

During the 2024-25 playoffs, Kelce already broke one of Rice’s records, specifically for the most games with 100 or more receiving yards, totaling 9 games. The Chiefs’ tight end achieved this in the game against the Texans, posting 117 yards after catching all seven passes.

Other records Kelce could break

Rice holds several records that are still intact, including two notable postseason records. One is for the most career postseason receiving yards, and Kelce would need 207 to break that NFL record. On the other hand, Rice has another record that seems much easier for Kelce to break with Mahomes’ arm; he has 22 postseason receiving touchdowns, and the Chiefs player has 20, needing 3 to surpass it.
