The Jacksonville Jaguars believed in 2021 that Trevor Lawrence was the cornerstone upon which they would build a project to lead them to win the Super Bowl. For this reason, there was never any doubt that the Clemson prospect would be the first pick in that draft.
However, four years later, the results have been disappointing. First, Urban Meyer’s tenure as head coach was disastrous and lasted only one year. Then, Doug Pederson seemed to be the ideal mentor for Lawrence, but things didn’t work out either.
To all of this, we must add that in 2024, Trevor signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension that was heavily criticized due to the lack of playoff victories. That deal gave him a higher salary than Patrick Mahomes, without the accolades of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, and put the Jaguars in a tight spot with the salary cap.
Who left the Jaguars?
Evan Engram will leave the Jaguars, as a report by Tom Pelissero confirmed that Jacksonville has decided to release the star tight end. Now, the player becomes one of the most sought-after free agents in the NFL.
After hearing the news, Engram couldn’t hide his surprise and guaranteed that he will seek redemption elsewhere. “It’s all love Jax. But they just let a dog loose! Excited for what’s next!”
