The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to move on from a disappointing 2024 NFL season in which they missed the playoffs. For the upcoming campaign, the arrival of Liam Coen as the new head coach could bring a fresh approach to the team’s system, led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence is heading into his fifth season as a pro and hopes to lead the Jaguars on a deep run. In that context, Coen has made it clear that he plans to implement strategies to elevate the performance of the star quarterback and the rest of the team in order to meet expectations.

Coen is ready to be the leader who gives Lawrence’s young career a boost. The Jaguars’ new head coach has focused on strengthening the 25-year-old quarterback’s footwork, something that could be key to his overall performance, making the upcoming season a true challenge.

Coen’s message to Lawrence

“We’re diving into his footwork. Everything with the quarterback position, so much is built on the lower half and the mind. And those are the things that we can truly control. Because the stroke is the stroke for us, that’s how we look at it. The stroke is the stroke, and we’re not touching that. So really, we’re diving into his footwork, some of those mechanics,” Coen said in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Liam Coen, new Head Coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, looks on as he is introduced to the media at the Miller Electric Center on January 27, 2025.

Coen also emphasized the schemes he plans to implement to improve Lawrence’s performance. “Obviously, once we get into the building some of the football aspects: the formations, the motions, the shifts. But for us to help him truly, also from a schematic standpoint, man, we’ve got to be able to run the football a little bit better,” he said.

“Give him some help from that standpoint, take a little pressure off, while also playing some good, sound, fundamental hard defense on the other side of the ball. To be able to ultimately get the best out of our quarterback, we gotta be able to help,” Coen declared.
