Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have made a crucial decision while waiting on Aaron Rodgers. According to a report by Dan Graziano, the team is ready to trade up in order to draft Shedeur Sanders.
“Fact of the matter is, if the Saints like Shedeur Sanders enough to take him at nine, they might have been thinking that way anyway with Carr only under contract for one more year, but it does lead an air of intrigue to this 10 days ahead of time. If Shedeur Sanders does not go at nine, if he’s still available at 10 or in the teens, watch out for the Pittsburgh Steelers at 21 for the potential to move up. They had him in for a visit late last week. They’re still waiting on an answer from Aaron Rodgers, to whom they’ve had an offer out for some time. But they know that Aaron Rodgers is not gonna be the long-term answer at quarterback, even if he does sign there.”
Undoubtedly, that would be a very attractive plan to become Super Bowl contenders again in the near future. Rodgers to compete for a championship next season, and Sanders as the top long-term prospect.
Who will be Steelers starting quarterback?
Aaron Rodgers would be the starting quarterback for the Steelers, and Shedeur Sanders would be the option for the future. In fact, just a few days ago, a report from Albert Breer indicated that the veteran was willing to mentor J.J. McCarthy with the Vikings, so that wouldn’t be an obstacle in Pittsburgh.
However, Graziano mentions that a big problem for Tomlin to get the rookie could be the lack of draft capital. “I do think the Steelers would consider it if they have a guy they really love. The problem the Steelers have is they don’t have as much ammunition. They don’t have as much in terms of other picks, because they traded their second rounder already for DK Metcalf.”
