Repeating last season’s NFL success won’t be an easy task — even more so as defending champions. That’s the major challenge facing the Philadelphia Eagles as they gear up for a new campaign. Unfortunately for Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, a new physical setback has hit the reigning Super Bowl champions’ roster.
The first test against the Bengals, while statistically positive, came with unfortunate news for the Eagles — as offensive lineman Kenyon Green suffered a shoulder injury. His availability alongside the rest of the team will now be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
The news was reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, who shared the update on his official X account (formerly Twitter), confirming this latest setback involving one of the key players expected to help protect Jalen Hurts.
“Landon Dickerson isn’t the only Eagles guard who is now considered week to week. Kenyon Green, whom the Eagles acquired in an off-season trade, also is what one source described as ‘week to week’ with a shoulder injury that is likely to end his preseason,” the insider stated.
It’s worth noting that Green joined the Eagles this past offseason after his stint with the Houston Texans, the team that drafted him in 2022 out of Texas A&M.
Landon Dickerson’s current status
Landon Dickerson, another key offensive guard on Sirianni’s squad, was also affected this past weekend, finishing the game with a meniscus injury in his right knee.
According to Schefter via @AdamSchefter, the former Alabama standout will also be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, with hopes that he’ll be ready to suit up for the reigning champions’ Week 1 opener.
“Best-case scenario: Eagles Pro-Bowl guard Landon Dickerson will undergo what’s being described as “a minor procedure” on the meniscus in his right knee in the coming days. Dickerson then will be considered week to week, with the goal of returning for the Thursday night, Sept. 4 regular-season opener vs. the Cowboys.”
Early challenges for the reigning champions
Despite lingering uncertainty surrounding the availability of Kenyon Green and Landon Dickerson for the season opener, these are the first matchups Philadelphia will face as they begin their quest to defend last season’s NFL title.
