Kansas City Chiefs continue to make moves in the NFL Draft and have decided to select a potential key weapon for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. With this, the team under head coach Andy Reid aims to strengthen the offensive sector of the franchise, looking to go far next season.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Kansas City franchise made strategic selections to strengthen their team in key positions, including the addition of offensive lineman Josh Simmons from Ohio State, taken in the first round with the 32nd pick.
Mahomes will now have a new potential key weapon that could take its first steps as a professional with the Chiefs, developed as a player with great challenges and surrounded by Super Bowl champions like head coach Reid and another star like tight end Travis Kelce.
The Chiefs’ new potential key weapon
The new potential key weapon for quarterback Mahomes is none other than wide receiver Jalen Royals, who was picked by the Chiefs with the 133rd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Royals, who played for Utah State after transferring from Georgia Military College, had an impressive 2023 season where he earned first-team All-Mountain West honors.
Royals had some physical problems last year, but they have not changed his status as an up-and-coming youngster. Despite missing the last five games of the 2024 season due to a right foot injury, he was still recognized as a second-team All-Mountain West selection, with 55 receptions for 834 yards and six touchdowns.
What can Royals bring to the Chiefs?
Royals will now join the Chiefs’ explosive offense, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City is looking to further enhance its offensive firepower, and Royals, with his strong college performance, aims to contribute significantly to the team in the 2025 season.
