The New England Patriots come from a very bad season for them, failing to make the NFL playoffs for the first time in 11 years, watching how Tom Brady and his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, won it all this season.
Well, that’s part of the past now and the Pats are ready to start a new chapter, hoping to get a successful one and they’re already looking to add an interesting player to improve their level and compete in the difficult AFC.
Recent rumors have suggested they have placed their attention on a quarterback who looked very promising at the start of his career but now is playing as a backup. They want to copy a formula to be competitive again and Bill Belichick is all about that.
New England Patriots could trade for Marcus Mariota
The Athletic explained what the picture looks like for a lot of teams and players around the league and some quarterbacks could be on the move this offseason, including Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz. Moreover, the Patriots could be looking to add a former No. 2 overall pick in Marcus Mariota.
He has been part of the Las Vegas Raiders after losing his spot on the Tennessee Titans and given that his current team is all-in on Derek Carr as their starting quarterback, the former Oregon player could be headed to Foxborough.
Multiple sources, including one GM, told The Athletic the Raiders’ preference is to move Marcus Mariota and keep Carr, unless someone makes them a ridiculous offer for Carr. Mariota has been mentioned as a possibility in New England, with the hope he could become for the Patriots what Ryan Tannehill has been for Mike Vrabel in Tennessee.
The Pats signed Cam Newton last season and things didn’t work for them, although the term started very well for both parties. Bill Belichick wants to make a statement and take this team where it belongs and Mariota is seen as a very good option to help him.
