The Jacksonville Jaguars aim to become contenders in the AFC South, and to do so, they are slowly shaping a competitive roster for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. Coming from the Philadelphia Eagles, a former Super Bowl champion alongside Jalen Hurts joins the team to help Trevor Lawrence have a great season.

The latest news reports the arrival of Fred Johnson to the Jaguars, after agreeing to a one-year contract. The offensive tackle joins Liam Coen‘s team to add experience to a position group that showed some weaknesses at times last season.

The news was reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, who, through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirmed the arrival of the former Florida Gators player to Jacksonville.

“Jaguars are signing former Eagles offensive tackle Fred Johnson to a one-year deal, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” the insider reported via @AdamSchefter.

Fred Johnson #74 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates after beating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 to win Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome on February 09, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Since entering the league, the OT has had stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and most recently, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Johnson already knows what it’s like to win a Super Bowl

Although Fred Johnson did not have an active role in the last Super Bowl, he was part of the Eagles roster that triumphed in New Orleans on February 9.

At that time, Nick Sirianni’s team was able to withstand the attacks from Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs, and with a stellar defensive performance, combined with the talent of Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown, they managed to secure the win with a 40-22 final score.

Now confirmed as a new player for the Jaguars, Johnson will aim to take on a more prominent role with the team, in hopes of helping Lawrence and his teammates lift the next Vince Lombardi Trophy.
