The winter transfer window could be more eventful than expected. Thissummerhad plenty of headline-making moves but not for Liverpool, who have only signed Ibrahima Konate from Leipzig. However, the Reds could be busier come January.
They have been linked with a €35 million move for one of their Premier League rivals’ star, while they also need to resolve Mohamed Salah‘s contract renewal. But the English giants may have to be prepared for a departure as well.
Even though Jurgen Klopp‘s squad lookes fine and quite unchanged from previous seasons, not everyone seems to behappy with their role. And Arsenal are reportedlyin pole position to land one of their midfielders.
Arsenal reportedly willing to bring back Liverpool star
According to The Sun, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is unhappy with his lack of playing minutes at Anfield and he could re-join the Gunners in January. The English outlet claims that the 28-year-old central midfield wants a more important role and he would be interested in going back to London to have that opportunity.
The Ox, who has made35 appearances for the England national team, has played an important part in Liverpool’s successful campaigns over the last few years since joining them from Arsenal in 2017 for nearly£34 million.
But injuries caught up with him and he has failed to earn a place in the starting eleven since then. Therefore, Oxlade-Chamberlain would be willing to leave the Reds despite his£125,000-a-week contract and a reunion with former teammate and current Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta mightbe a possibility.
The move would make sense for allparties involved. Oxlade-Chamberlain seems to run from behind Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott for Klopp, while Arsenal might need a new face in the midfield with Granit Xhaka injured and Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey set to take part in the African Cup of Nations in January.
The report adds that Arsenal would be interested in a six-month loan with a possibility of making the move permanent next summer. Oxlade-Chamberlain’sdeparture forLiverpool a few years ago hasn’t gone downwell with the Gooners, but this could be a great opportunity to put any hard feelings behind them and re-establish the affection for each other.
