The race will be the fourth round of the 2021 Formula One World Championship, the 61st Grand Prix of Spain, the 51st World Championship round, and the 31st Grand Prix of Spanish at the Barcelona-Catalonia circuit. It will bethe first Formula One race on this course, with the 10th turn being restructured from a tight hairpin to a quicker curve to increase driver safety.

The firstSpanish Grand Prix was held in 1913, and itwas promoted to Europe in 1937before the end of the Spanish Civil War.The event was resurrected successfully in 1967 and has been regularly held at various venues since 1968 as a part of the Formula One World Championship. Michael Schumacher holds the record for most wins (6), while Ferrari with 13 wins are the trackconstructors leaders.
