Duke’s new weapon breaks the silence about playing for Jon Scheyer

The Duke Blue Devils lost plenty of talent, but they found more than enough resources to make up for those losses.

The Duke Blue Devils lost plenty of talent to the NBA Draft. Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Khaman Malauch, Isaiah Evans, and Tyrese Proctor will all look to turn pro next season.

Needless to say, that puts Jon Scheyer, who coached the team to a 35-4 record and a Final Four berth last season, in a tough position to replenish the pool of talent in Durham.

Fortunately for him, the Blue Devils were able to land Cedric Coward, one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal, and he couldn’t be more excited about this new chapter.

“The whole starting five, they’re leaving,” Coward said. “So, how are they going to replace that? Then again, I looked at it from a perspective, you got Caleb Foster, me, the Boozer twins, Pat Ngongba, and Isaiah Evans. Like, we got killers on this team and the shortest guy is 6’4.”

Of course, he’s also aware of the fact that he’s not necessarily going to be the main star or the go-to guy. Given how much talent they have, he’ll have to make some sacrifices:

This is a team full of stars, and it’s a team full of guys that are killers and just want to do whatever it is that can help us win,” he added. “Each guy has the potential and the ability to do anything on any given night.”

Coward is coming off quite a strong season at Washington State. He averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game for the Cougars after two years at Eastern Washington.
