Paige Bueckers is, by all means, the best player of her class in college basketball right now. She’s already made history for the UConn Huskies, and she can go down as one of the best players in program history.
Nevertheless, she still has one thing missing from her trophy cabinet: As good as she’s been, she has yet to lead the program to the top of the world and win a national championship.
She’s projected to leave and join the WNBA next season, meaning that this will most likely be her final shot at the ultimate glory. That’s why Geno Auriemma wants to see what she’s made of.
Coach Auriemma talks about Paige Bueckers and March Madness
“There are two ways that a senior can go,” Auriemma said. “They can either be panicking or stressed about what’s coming next, or they can relish in the moment, make the most of it and have the final say. Let’s hope it keeps going the way of the latter, but that’s what she is right now.”

Bueckers has been on the wrong end of some heartbreaking matchups, but the Huskies look like an unstoppable force right now, even blowing out the South Carolina Gamecocks.
She’s usually risen to the occasion, and she has the talent to put the team on her shoulders and take care of business. Whether she’ll do it or fall short remains to be seen.
