Brayan Bello had a stellar outing against the New York Yankees in a 1-0 victory, securing the Boston Red Sox‘s second consecutive win in the long four-game series in the Bronx. By allowing no runs and just three hits, he earned a place in the team’s record books.

According to a report by Rob Bradford with assistance from the Elias Sports Bureau, “Bello is the first pitcher in Red Sox history to go 7+ scoreless innings while allowing no more than three hits in consecutive games pitched against the Yankees.”

The young starter added another win to his impressive August tally, and his work in seven scoreless innings was particularly notable given he was pitching in the Bronx against the Yankees. He also delivered 5 strikeouts.

A Near-Perfect Month for Bello

August has been quite good for Bello, who has three wins in his last four starts against the Royals, Marlins, and Yankees, with only one loss against the Padres. This follows a strong month in July where he had four wins and two losses.

Game 2 of the series against the Yankees was also the second time Bello started against them this year. He also earned a 2-0 win in June, which was his first 7-inning game of the season. He now has three such outings, with the other coming against the Twins.

The Red Sox’s Situation

With Bello in good form, the Red Sox are moving up in the AL East and are now ahead of the Yankees in the Wild Card race. The team’s situation in August is much better than the Yankees’, though they have yet to win a road series this month.
