Dave Dombrowski fuels speculation on Kyle Schwarber’s future with Phillies

With the end of the season approaching, people are starting to wonder what the Philadelphia Phillies will do with Kyle Schwarber, who will be out of contract at the end of the year. However, Dave Dombrowski's recent declaration may indicate the club's intentions.

Dave Dombrowski knows the Philadelphia Phillies are in a special moment of the season with strong numbers, and one of the main contributors this year has been Kyle Schwarber. Dombrowski recently spoke about the team’s intentions for the slugger.

In a clear statement about the future of a key player, Dombrowski spoke highly of Schwarber on MLB Now. Dombrowski’s comments express the organization’s strong desire to keep the slugger on the team for the long term, while also acknowledging the potential challenges of making that happen.

“I can’t say one bad thing about Kyle Schwarber,” Dombrowski said. “We’d love to have him back in the organization for years to come. Know it probably won’t be easy…We’ll wait and see what happens.”

How Much Should Schwarber’s Contract Be Worth?

According to analysts like Jeff Passan, who commented on this a couple of months ago, Kyle Schwarber could easily receive an offer of $100 million or more from the Phillies or any other MLB team. This would be the key for Dave Dombrowski, who would need to be willing to surpass those offers to keep him.

Although Bryce Harper and other teammates have expressed their desire for Schwarber to re-sign, that doesn’t guarantee he will ink a new deal with the Phillies. Many other teams are in need of a designated hitter of his quality, which will drive up his market value.

More Money for Schwarber

In his years with the Phillies, Schwarber has earned a considerable $79 million, which is the most money he’s been paid by a single team in his career. This is also his second-longest tenure in the MLB. He would need two more years to match the time he spent with the Cubs and one more year to surpass it.
