The Arizona Diamondbacks will have to play without Corbin Carroll for a stretch—painful as that may be—all in the name of allowing him time to recover from a sore hand. The injury recently prompted a scan to assess his status, and that’s when the bad news emerged.
“Carroll underwent an MRI and CT scan on his sore left hand on Monday, June 23, and Carroll is expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list, a source said, the latest blow for a Diamondbacks team that has been crushed by injuries,” wrote Nick Piecoro for AZCentral.
Regarding Carroll’s injury, manager Torey Lovullo told Todd Walsh that Carroll was diagnosed with a ‘chip fracture.’ The team now awaits to see if a more significant decision, such as surgery, will be necessary should the fracture not heal on its own.
Carroll Discusses Injury Setback
The Arizona Diamondbacks are certainly missing Corbin Carroll, who recently admitted his hand isn’t healing as quickly as he’d hoped. Despite the frustration, Carroll is prepared to give it the necessary time to return and help his team.
“Unfortunately, it’s not responding as quickly as I would like,” Carroll said. “Just something we’ve got to give it time. We were pretty aggressive the last two days in terms of trying to get back in there.”

Who Will Replace Carroll?
With Carroll sidelined, the Diamondbacks will call up Jake McCarthy from Triple-A. McCarthy has played in 14 games with the Diamondbacks this season before being optioned to the minors, and the team expects him to contribute upon his return. He’ll look to improve on his .073 batting average in the MLB this year across just 41 at-bats.
