Juan Soto recently participated in a tight contest where the New York Mets barely managed a comeback win against the Red Sox. Despite ongoing concerns about the batting order’s struggles, Soto stepped forward to defend his teammates.

“We’re gonna have ups and downs. We just have to keep our chin up and keep moving forward. It’s a game of failure. Sometimes you’re gonna fail and you just gotta keep moving forward. It doesn’t matter what,” Soto said regarding the lineup’s struggles at the plate.

The Mets‘ offensive production has been noticeably low, leading to the criticism Soto is attempting to deflect with his message. In their last six games, they’ve scored a mere 10 runs, and no one has hit a home run since last week’s series against the Pirates.

Soto also delivered another clear message when questioned about the Mets’ struggles with runners in scoring position (RISP). He stated that the team needs to make a greater effort to execute in those moments but expressed confidence that in the long run those things will work out better for the team.

“We’ve got to capitalize as a team. We gotta go out there and get those guys in. We do a pretty good job about getting guys on but at the end of the day we gotta come through,” Soto remarked following the Mets’ loss to the Red Sox.

Soto’s Production Declines

Since the Subway Series and now through Game 1 against the Red Sox, Soto has only produced two runs and two hits, a concerning dip in production for a player who has faced criticism for his plate appearances. His last home run came on May 9th against the Cubs, marking his eighth of the season.
