Kyle Schwarber is on fire in ways few of his Philadelphia Phillies teammates can match. The slugger, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, is now chasing one of the franchise’s all-time greats as he looks to break a record that’s stood since the 1981–82 season.
That record? The Phillies’ longest on-base streak. Schwarber has now reached base in 45 consecutive MLB games, tying him with Odúbel Herrera, who reached the same mark during the 2017–18 campaign.
It may not be the flashiest record, but for a designated hitter like Schwarber, the streak is a strong sign of consistency and quality at-bats. He showed that again recently in the Phillies’ 7–1 win over the Guardians, where he recorded a run, two hits, and an RBI.
Which Phillies legend is Schwarber chasing?
The franchise’s all-time record for longest on-base streak belongs to Mike Schmidt — a name that resonates not only in Philadelphia, but across MLB history. Considered by many to be the greatest third baseman of all time, Schmidt reached base in 56 straight games during the 1981–82 stretch.

Before Schwarber can catch Schmidt, he’ll first have to surpass Bobby Abreu, who reached base in 48 straight games in 2000–01. Abreu’s mark is the best of the 21st century for the Phillies. Ahead of him at No. 2 is Hall of Famer Chuck Klein, who set the bar at 49 games back in 1930.

Schwarber staying steady in 2025
Though the 2025 season is still young, Schwarber has been a steady presence for a Phillies team that got off to a shaky start. He’s already hit 12 home runs and leads the team with 29 RBIs — ahead of Bryce Harper’s 22. While Schwarber doesn’t have the highest batting average on the roster, he’s proving to be one of the club’s most productive hitters.
