The New York Mets have finally made a decision on Francisco Álvarez, who had been showing significant improvement in Triple-A — flashing the kind of power at the plate that hadn’t been seen from him in months at the major league level.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have decided to bring Álvarez back to the roster, giving him the opportunity to contribute once again. The move is a key one, as the team is in need of a boost in offensive production.

What’s caught everyone’s attention is how productive Francisco Álvarez has been in Triple-A. He’s been on a hot streak, launching multiple home runs each week — something that didn’t go unnoticed by Mets fans, many of whom were calling for his return to the big-league roster.

Álvarez Looks to Be Back in Form

It’s true Álvarez didn’t produce at the level the Mets expected in 2025. After returning from a hand injury and making his first stint in Triple-A, he was hitting just .236 — a number that didn’t inspire much confidence from the coaching staff or front office. That led to another demotion back to Triple-A, where he’s been hitting better than ever.

This season, Álvarez has hit 11 home runs — 10 of them with Syracuse — which has raised eyebrows inside the organization. Some believe the hitting coach in Syracuse may have unlocked something for him, as every time he returns to Triple-A, the power immediately returns. That wasn’t the case during his early-season stretch with the Mets at the major league level.

What Are the Mets Getting Back with Álvarez?

It’s not just his bat that adds value. Álvarez is also a capable catcher, someone who could contribute behind the plate alongside Luis Torrens, who currently holds down the position. While it’s unclear whether Álvarez will reclaim the full-time role, it’s likely he’ll see time at catcher in upcoming games.
