Taijuan Walker, in his third season with the Philadelphia Phillies, is no stranger to seeing teammates navigate difficult stretches. Now, as Jordan Romano faces his own challenges, Walker has decided to speak openly and offer some words of support for the struggling pitcher.
In recent comments to On Pattison, Walker acknowledged Romano’s current situation, stating, “I know he’s a high leverage guy…” referring to Romano’s role in crucial game situations. Walker also drew on his experience with other pitchers who have overcome similar slumps.
Despite some tough breaks, Taijuan has observed Romano working effectively on the mound. In Walker’s view, Romano has looked good, simply going through a period that he believes can be overcome, just as other pitchers have done in the past.
Jordan Romano Recently Addressed His Situation
Following the Phillies’ recent 11-10 victory in Game 2 against the Marlins, Romano had another difficult outing. He himself described it as the worst of his career after surrendering a significant portion of the Phillies’ lead over the Marlins.
“Yeah, you know, I felt great out there. That’s the best my arm has felt in a long time. Go out there, throwing strikes, felt confident honestly in all my pitches,” Romano told On Pattinson. “I just … I don’t know, they were seeing it really well today. Everything I threw in there, felt like they were pretty comfortable with … obviously putting pretty good swings on it.”

Romano’s Season Off to a Rough Start
The pressure on Romano is palpable, given that this is his first year with the Phillies and high expectations accompany his arrival in the bullpen. Through his first nine appearances, he has a 15.26 ERA, a concerning statistic that could create complications as the season progresses. However, with many games still to be played, there’s ample opportunity for improvement, especially considering his career 3.08 ERA.
