Yankees fans send harsh message to Aaron Boone with paper bags protest

Aaron Boone was always going to be a target for angry New York Yankees fans, and they made that clear by expressing their frustration with paper bags.

New York Yankees fans are always quick to weigh in on the team’s struggles — and just as quick to point fingers. For some, the main culprit right now is manager Aaron Boone, who they believe isn’t getting the job done.

To show their frustration over Boone’s handling of the team’s poor performance, a pair of fans were spotted at Yankee Stadium wearing paper bags over their heads with the words “Boone is a Buffoon” written on them — a harsh message aimed squarely at the manager.

Despite the Yankees’ grim situation, Boone has recently tried to lift the spirits of both his players and the fan base with an encouraging message. The team is on the brink of missing the postseason, and if that happens, the protests from fans will likely grow even louder.

What Could a Message Like That Mean Against Boone?

The interpretation of such a strong message calling Boone a “buffoon” is that a significant portion of Yankees fans are dissatisfied with the manager’s performance. The Paper Bags at the stadium is a symbolic gesture of frustration, but it’s not a new sentiment; similar or worse comments can be read every day on X and other platforms.

The reactions to the Paper Bags were as strong, if not stronger, than the message itself. “Boone should have been fired 5 years ago
” wrote one fan, while another defended the manager, stating, “Boone isn’t the one playing, though,” highlighting that the players also bear significant responsibility.

Boone postseasons with Yankees

Boone has actually been effective at leading the Yankees to the MLB postseason. Since 2018, he has taken the team to six postseasons, missing it only once, in 2023. Even with Gerrit Cole winning the Cy Young Award that season, it wasn’t enough to help the team reach October.
