The 2020 NBA Draft is just around the corner, which means all teams, experts, and even fans are working on their big boards, especially those with top-3 pickslike the Golden State Warriors. James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, are just some of the top prospects that could fall into the Dubs’ lap with the 2nd overall pick.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding the Warriors’ pick. Some claim that they’ll try and trade it for an All-Star who can already make an impact, while others believe they’re planning ahead to the future and will land a can’t-miss kind of talent, like LaMelo Ball.

Ball is considered to be one of the most talented prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft class but there are also serious questions regarding his ability to dominate at the next level, which may scare away the Warriors.

LaMelo Ball Is Not A Follower, Says LaVar

And if those doubts weren’t enough to make the Warriors pass on Melo, his father literally said that they shouldn’t take him before he’s not going to follow in line and play behind Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry:

“They got Klay (Thompson) and the other guys and now you want to put Melo in that mix to say you got to follow these guys. Melo ain’t no follower,” the controversial Ball patriarch told the media.

This time, however, LaVar has a point. It’s not in LaMelo Ball’s best interest to play behind the Splash Brothers if he wants to thrive and develop his game, even if he has the chance to compete for an NBA Championship.

So, what should contenders do? Play it safe and trade their pick? Gamble on unproven prospects? There’s no right answer right now but luckily for the Warriors, they’re in control of their own destiny.
