Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA. However, the Brooklyn Nets’ star has also made a name for himself for being one of the biggest trash-talkers in the league, especially when his legacy is questioned.

Durant drew a lot of criticism for his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and ever since, he embraced that role as the NBA’s villain. He’ll speak his mind whether you like it or not.

That’s why we should all listen to him whenever he’s in front of a mic. Nobody’s safe from Durant’s jabs, especially not the New York Knicks, the team he was reportedly going to sign with, and that now happens to be their city rivals.

Kevin Durant Throws Shade At The New York Knicks

New Orleans Pelicans’ JJ Redick had Durant on his podcast yesterday and, needless to say, the 2-time Finals MVP shared his thoughts with no filter regarding many subjects, one of them being the current state of the Knickerbockers, going as far as to claim that the city is looking for a team to support right now:

“We’ve got a new, fresh team with me,Kyrie Irving,DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, a lot of guys on our team that our veterans. I’m excited. It should be a fun time. New York basketball is definitely looking for a team to support. We’re going to come out there and play hard every single night and play exciting basketball,” Durant said.

That’s a bit of a bold statement considering that, even though the Knicks hadn’t won a Championship in decades, they’re still one of the most lucrative franchises in sports and one of the NBA teams with the most fans.

Durant Didn’t Want To Save The Knicks

For months, it was believed that the New York Knicks were Kevin Durant’s preferred destination in free agency. He had enterprises and properties in the area, plus his legacy would have gotten a major boost if he turned MSG into a playoff arena again. However, he just didn’t care about that:

“I didn’t want to be the savior of the Knicks or New York. I didn’t care about being the king of New York. That never really moved me. I didn’t care about being on Broadway. I just wanted to play ball and go to the crib and chill. And that’s what Brooklyn embodied. There’s no show when you come to our games. No Madison Square mecca, all of that s–t. We just gonna hoop and build something new in Brooklyn,” Durant concluded.

KD and Kyrie Irving can certainly build something special with the Nets. They’re talented enough to bring an NBA Championship back to New York City. Sadly, not to the team most New Yorkers would like.
