You canāt thrive in todayās NBA unless youāre a somewhat capable three-point shooter. Well, thatās unless youāre name is DeMar DeRozan, an All-Star and dominant scorer who simply refuses to take shots from deep.
DeRozan has made under 400 three-pointers throughout his entire career, which would seem like a down year for Stephen Curry. Yet, somehow, he still finds a way to stay relevant and contribute to winning teams.
But, surprisingly, he recently admitted that itās not that he canāt shoot threes, claiming that he doesnāt take them because he doesnāt want to even though he knows that heās been āa bit of an a**holeā for that.
DeMar DeRozan Says Heāll Shoot Threes Just To Silence His Critics
āIām pretty sure Iāll hit a spurt to where itās like āwell, yāall keep saying I canāt shoot threes lemme start shooting threes again,ā DeMar DeRozan said on JJ Redickās podcast āThe Old Man and the Treeā.
Adding the three-point shot to his repertoire would definitely improve his game. Heās a great mid-range scorer and an athletic freak but heās been exposed by defenses in the playoffs due to his lack of range. Then again, that hasnāt stopped contending teams from inquiring about his availability.
Los Angeles Lakers Targetting DeMar DeRozan
As we previously reported, Kevin OāConnor of The Ringer revealed that the Lakers are interested in trading away Kyle Kuzma and Danny Green to the Spurs for DeMar DeRozan, with Jeff Duarte of Pounding the Rock breaking down the move for both teams:
āIn a nutshell, the Spurs would send DeRozan to Los Angeles in exchange for Kyle Kuzma and Danny Green and a 2022 first-round draft pick. The Lakers take on DeRozanās $27.7M and the Spurs pick up $18.9M between Kuzma and Green. Greenās contract expires at the end of next season, opening up cap space for the Spurs,ā Duarte said.
āFrom the Lakersā perspective, they get another solid piece in what is already a solid team ready to defend their 2020 title. Bringing DeMar home also adds a nice touch. LeBron is LeBron, but he is getting older.ā the report concluded.
Now, whether a deal will be done or not is yet to be seen, but what is clear is that DeRozan will have to at least try and make a couple of threes per game if he wants to help LeBron James and Anthony Davis win another title.
