Making it to the NBA, playing for an important franchise, making millions, and becoming a world-renowned superstar might be the dream for any basketball player. And Jimmy Butler seems to have accomplished all those things.
So, for anyone who believes that's what makes a player successful or happy, the Miami Heat forward should be more than pleased with everything he's achieved so far. He's one of the best in the league, he has a fantastic contract, and this season could be great for him and the Heat.
Butler, however, talked about the dark side of being a celebrity. While many people may want to be famous, something he clearly is, the 32-year-old explained what he doesn't like about being an NBA star.
Heat's Jimmy Butler explains how being an NBA star can be tough
People often believe players' lives are quite simple and easy with all the money they make and the fame they have. But, even though it seems obvious, sometimes they ignore the fact they're human beings and they also have their own problems.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Jimmy Butler explained how being a popular person prevents him from having privacy and time with his family without being asked for a picture or asked about basketball.
“I think one of the hardest things about being a celebrity is that you can’t go be a parent from time to time. I hate that I can’t take my daughter to the zoo because everyone wants to talk basketball or take a photo. To my daughter, I’m just her dad, she doesn’t know any different," Butler said.
“I hate that I can’t take her to the park because there are kids who are out playing basketball and (they say), ‘Hey, let’s go play.’ I love you kids, but I literally just want to be a dad right now. A lot of times I just try to do a lot of things with her around the house, or I’ll get on my bike and put her on the back of it, stuff like that, where it can just be us.”
At the end of the day, everyone has their own issues and we're not in a position to judge if they are right or wrong for feeling how they do. Of course Butler can enjoy many things thanks to his sporting career, but it's absolutely respectable if he wishes to have more privacy.
