The 2K company has revealed its ratings for the NBA 2K21 next-gen edition set to premiere in November. The people behind the game were getting a lot of criticism due to the lack of substantial changes in the new installment of the video game and they recently were under fire for placing unskippable in-game ads.
They apologized for that and now it’s part of the past. Moreover, they got to work to make fans happy and the game is trending now for good reasons. They just released the ratings of NBA 2K21 next-gen with some changes following the NBA bubble in Orlando, the success of some teams and players and the failures of others.
LeBron James is once again the best player in the game, boasting a 98 OVR for the second time in the last three years. He was tied with Kawhi Leonard as the best player of NBA 2K20 with a 97 rating but now the throne is just for the King.
NBA 2K21 ratings: winners and losers
LeBron is, without any hesitation, the biggest winner of this list. The King showed during the bubble that he’s still the best player in the league and nobody can take that from him. Another winner is Jimmy Butler, who led the Miami Heat to the Finals for the first time in six years, almost single-handedly extending the series to six games. Butler received a 93 overall rating.
Anthony Davis received a 96 overall, while other stars like Luka Doncic (94) and Jayson Tatum (90) also saw their rating boosted for this installment. Zion Williamson had a 2-point upgrade, going from 84 last year to 86 this one.
When we talk about losers, one of the biggest we can find is Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers, who received an 88 rating this year. Something unexpected was watching Trae Young getting an 88 rating too following a terrific individual season with the Atlanta Hawks where he proved he’s one of the best shooters in the league right now.
Donovan Mitchell, who was terrific in the bubble (especially in the first round with the Utah Jazz) also got an 88 rating, just like Jamal Murray, who got an 87 rating, surprisingly.

As it happens with other sports, NBA players reacted to their ratings, with some showing their excitement for their overall valuation while others used it as motivation.
Jayson Tatum celebrated his 90 OVR rating expressing his happiness with it, talking about the hard job he puts in to become a better player every season.
“I feel good,” Tatum said. “You set out a goal before the season, and once you accomplish that goal, it feels good. And now we’re on to the next marker.”
Paul George talked about his rating following a bad performance in the playoffs, vowing to try to be better next season, which could be his revenge campaign in the NBA.
“This is going to be an amazing training going into this next season. I’m going to predict I’m around a 95. 2K22, I’ll be like a 96,” George predicted.
As for Trae Young, the young player reacted with a gif to his rating, showing his discontent with his valuation in the new edition of the video game.
Jamal Murray also had something to say about his, even claiming he deserves an 89 rating.
This is going to be a topic of discussion always. Every year at least one player will complain about his rating. Fans will agree or disagree with them depending on what they saw on the court, but this is something that will continue to happen.
Still, some reactions are hilarious and help ballers to try to become better the next season.
