For decades, people have debated what’s the greatest team in NBA history. For most, that distinction should belong to the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, as they won 72 games in the regular season and then became NBA Champions.

Other teams have since then challenged those Bulls’ status as the most dominant team of all time. Nonetheless, it seems like no one has been able to top them when it comes to going the distance.

The 2015-16 Golden State Warriors came pretty close and even broke the record for most wins in the regular season (73-9) but they ended up empty-handed as they lost in the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

John Salley Says The Lakers Need To Win 74 Games To Become The Greatest Team Of All Time

But according to former Detroit Pistons star John Salley, the 2020-21 Los Angeles Lakers have a good chance of becoming the greatest team of all time. For that, “all” they need to do is win 74+ games in the regular season:

“Their thing should be ‘hey fellas, we gotta win 74 games,” said the Pistons legend. “Then they go down in history. They’re better than the Golden State Warriors, better than the Chicago Bulls 1996, greatest team ever. The problem with the Warriors is they won 73 games but they lost in the Championship to LeBron. If these guys do the same thing, 73 wins, 74 wins, out of 82, and you win the Championship, it’d be the greatest team of All-Time.”

Well, that’s not much of a hot take and it will definitely be easier said than done. Also, if you take into account the fact that the Lakers are one of the oldest teams in the league and that the West is stacked with talent, winning 74 games seems unlikely.

Throughout his career, LeBron James has broken countless records and achieved dozens of milestones, but pulling this off would be the undeniable proof that he’s the greatest player of all time.
