The Golden State Warriors visit the Minnesota Timberwolves once again for Game 2 of the 2024–25 NBA Western Conference Semifinals, following a surprising 99–88 road win in Game 1. It was a historic night, as all visiting teams managed to come away with victories. However, the biggest storyline coming out of that matchup was the injury to Stephen Curry.

On Thursday morning, Curry was seen participating in the team’s shooting session, which immediately sparked speculation about whether he would be available for Game 2. The Warriors’ star had exited early in Game 1, and fans were eager for clarity on his status.

Curry addressed the situation himself, providing an update on his recovery process. Via Anthony Slater on X (formerly Twitter), Curry said: “No. And from all that I’m learning about how quickly you can get back, there has to be a healing process. You can’t accelerate.” It’s worth noting that this marks the first time in his career he’s dealt with a hamstring issue.

The Warriors will now aim for another gritty win. Even without Curry, Golden State pulled off the upset in Game 1, but they’ll need everyone to step up again if they hope to go up 2–0 in the NBA series.

What happened to Curry?

Stephen Curry has been ruled out for Game 2 due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain in his left leg, suffered in the first half of Game 1. The team’s medical staff estimates a recovery timeline of at least one week, meaning he may not return until Game 4 at the earliest.

The injury comes at a critical time for Golden State, as Curry’s offensive leadership and high-usage role are central to the team’s playoff strategy. Without him, the Warriors will need to rely heavily on depth and defensive execution.

What the Warriors need to stay competitive

For Golden State to continue thriving without its superstar, it will require a total team effort. Jimmy Butler must shoulder the scoring load, while Draymond Green’s leadership on the defensive end will be essential to slow down Timberwolves‘ Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert.

Additional contributions from Kevon Looney on the glass, a hot shooting night from Buddy Hield, and physical energy from Jonathan Kuminga could be game-changers. Brandin Podziemski, with his sharp passing and perimeter shooting, will also be key in filling the void left by Curry’s absence.
